I. ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS.

III. ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS.
4. Explain the procedure of the experiment to prove that Sunlight is essential for Photosynthesis
Answer –
Materials:
• A healthy green plant
• A piece of black paper
• A pair of scissors
• A beaker of water
• A dropper
• Iodine solution
Procedure:
• Keep the plant in a dark room for 24-48 hours. This will ensure that the leaves are depleted of starch.
• Cut a piece of black paper to fit over a leaf of the plant. Make sure that the black paper covers the entire leaf, including the edges.
• Secure the black paper to the leaf with a piece of tape.
• Place the plant in a sunny location for 3-4 hours.
• Remove the leaf from the plant and carefully peel off the black paper.
• Boil the leaf in a beaker of water for 10 minutes. This will decolorize the leaf and remove the chlorophyll.
• Allow the leaf to cool.
• Use a dropper to apply a few drops of iodine solution to the leaf.
Observations:
The areas of the leaf that were exposed to sunlight will turn blue-black. This is because the starch that was produced by photosynthesis reacted with the iodine solution. The areas of the leaf that were covered by the black paper will not turn blue-black. This is because no photosynthesis occurred in these areas.
Conclusion:
The results of this experiment show that sunlight is essential for photosynthesis. Without sunlight, no starch can be produced, and the leaf will not turn blue-black when exposed to iodine solution.

• Smoking: Smoking can damage the blood vessels and raise blood pressure.
